Mahendra Singh Dhoni, also called by names such as MSD, MS, Captain Cool, and Mahi, is an Indian cricketer who captained the Indian National Cricket Team in the limited over formats and in Test Cricket from 2007-2016 and 2008-2014 respectively. Early life and background:
Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi, Bihar (presently in Jharkhand). He is from a Hindu Rajput middle-class family. His father’s name is Mr. Pan Singh and his mother’s name is Devki Devi. His paternal village is in the Lwali, Langara block in Almora district, Uttarakhand. His father moved from Uttarakhand to Ranchi. He worked in junior management positions in MECON. Dhoni has a younger sister Jayanti Gupta and a brother Narendra Singh Dhoni. Dhoni had completed his schooling from DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Ranchi, Jharkhand. From his childhood, he was expelled in sports such as badminton, football, and cricket. At this time he was selected at the district level and club level. He loves to play football and played as a goalkeeper for his football team. In the year of 1993, Dhoni was first spotted as a goalkeeper by the cricket coach at his school Mr. KR Banerjee, who later asked him to try his hand in wicket-keeping. MS Dhoni: Career
Bihar Cricket team:
MS Dhoni was selected for the Central Coal Fields Limited (CCL) team. After this, he played for the school cricket and club cricket. CCL moved to A division, by Dhoni’s excellent performance. Dhoni got selected in senior Bihar Ranji Team at the age of in the year of 1999. But unfortunately, he was not selected for East Zone U-19 squad. Because of Bihar U-19 team advanced to finals but couldn’t make it a success. After a year, he got a chance for East Zone U-19 squad for the CK Nayudu trophy. Dhoni finished last in the tournament, the East Zone lost all the matches.
Jharkhand cricket team:
While playing in the Jharkhand Team for Ranji Trophy and Deodhar Trophy, he gained recognition for his lower-order contribution as well as hard-hitting batting style. During the Duleep Trophy Finals, Dhoni was picked over International cricketer Deep Dasgupta to represent the East Zone. Start of ODI career:
For his excellent performance, he was selected in the ODI team for the Bangladesh tour in the year 2004. In his first match unfortunately he was run out for the duck. He played an average series against Bangladesh. After this Dhoni was picked for the ODI series against Pakistan. In this series, he made a record for the highest score by an Indian wicket-keeper. He scored 148 runs in 123 balls.
He played in the first two matches in the Sri Lankan Bilateral ODI series that was held between October-November 2005. Dhoni scored an unbeaten 183 off 145 balls against Sri Lanka in October-November 2005. He received Man of the Series award. In the year of 2015, he had received a B-grade contract by the BCCI. Dhoni was the vice-captain of the ODI team for the series against South Africa and England also. In the year of 2007, Dhoni received an A Grade contract from the BCCI.In the year of 2009, the series between India vs Australia, Dhoni scored 124 runs off 107 balls in second ODI, and 71 runs off 95 balls in the third ODI. 2011 Cricket World Cup:
Team India won the 2011 World Cup under Dhoni’s captaincy. The final match against Sri Lanka, chasing 275, Dhoni promoted himself up the batting order. 2019 Cricket World Cup:
